The Magic Trains:
1.) Learned about poetry by reading short poems from a book called “Iguanas in the Snow” and writing our own original poems. Our poems began with “roses are red, violets are blue” and then the class came up with fun endings for their poems.
2.) Had a special Science class with Carol Scott (Trevor’s Mom). We learned about atoms, molecules and magnets. We also made an “alphahelix” which is one of the main components of a protein.
3.) Played games with Mr. Jim during Drama (including “Ships and Sailors”, “Going on a Journey” and “Magic Suitcase”).
The Diener Dinosaurs:
What a thrilling Thursday! Today the Diener Dinosaurs...
1.) Did a science activity with a real live scientist - Trevor's mom! She taught us about atoms, molecules, and magnets. Then we got to make our very own alpha helices (small compounds that make up a protein) out of pipe cleaners and beads!
2.) Made tall towers out of dominoes and then built a domino road by matching the numbers on each end of the dominoes!
3.) Continued to learn about how to tell a story using just music with Miss Deanna. We worked on telling stories using our instruments and our movements, then we created and drew our own stories and shared them with our friends.
The Mighty Dieners:
1.) In preparation for our field trip tomorrow, we built Alpha-helix molecules with Ms. Carol (Trevor’s mom)
2.) Ms. Kathy came and showed us different grips to use with pencils and we worked on our handwriting without tears books
3.) We had music with Ms. Marilyn – we reviewed songs we sang at the Hebrew Home, and matched sounds with the hand drums. We played many games in drama with Mr. Jim.
4.) We are also reviewing our Martin Luther King booklets
5.) We had a great time during indoor recess! It was too cold to go out today…
The Golden Owls:
1.) We continued to work on punctuation today concentrating on capitalization of names, days of the week and months of the year.
2.) In speech with Ms. Jen, we did an experiment! We made our very own Smelly-Doh (scented Play-Doh) and talked about the various parts of speech related to our activity (nouns- what we need; verbs- what we did; adjectives- how it felt). Then we compared and contrasted the Smelly-Doh with the Gak we made earlier in the week.
3.) We had a wonderful time with Mrs. Scott learning about proteins, atoms and molecules. We even made our own helixes using pipe cleaners and beads! It was such fun and we learned so much!
